Getting older doesn't have to mean getting old. Everyone knows that the foundation for good health is a good diet. But the key to getting into the best shape of your life is fire and determination fueled by a good diet! We created this page to fire you up with motivation and then show you off with success. It's not about looking beautiful, it's about getting into great health and feeling fabulous. We want to set the pace for our children and grandchildren to follow. Treat your body like it's young and you will feel young. Noah was 80 when he built the arc.  What will you do when you're 80? I would like to run a Spartan race with my grandkids.

Mother of 4 and grandmother to 6. Robin has to spread herself thin. Needless to say, she still makes time for herself because she knows that it's entirely up to you to make yourself, make your body, make your life. 


   Your body is much more amazing than what you give it credit for. It will adapt to the physical demands that you place on it to the point of much gratification. The more you exert your body through exercise and lifting, the more it will rise to the ocasion. The important thing to keep in mind here is, not to over exert yourself. Slower progress ensures minimal to no injury, at any age.

Weight lifting is much more than looking good. It makes weak muscles stronger, frail bones harder and for some odd reason it even made my aching joints stop aching. A recent study published in the American Journal of Medicine found that the higher your muscle mass index is, the more likely it is you’ll live longer! The findings suggest that muscle mass relative to one’s height is an independent prognostic marker for survival in older adults. So if you’re looking for the fountain of youth, get out there and make some muscle!

GET BIG WITH 2 WORDS...

PROTEIN SYNTHESIS  

 

Protein Synthesis is the protein building process that your body goes through when you work out. It is literally the duplication of protein in your muscles by help of amino acids which in turn make your muscles bigger and stronger. This synthesis processes can only be activated when the muscle tissue is broken down. The muscle tissue can only be broken down when you lift heavier than your previous workout. Otherwise your muscles get used to the weight and do not grow any further. The object is to lift at least 5 or 10 pounds heavier each week until the desired size is reached. The trick here is to eat just enough carbs for the strength that you will need for lifting heavy, without overeating and gaining too much weight. Sweet potatoes are a good carb of choice by many bodybuilders. Once the desired size is reached, begin the cut up process by doing high reps with the heaviest weight reached at that point. 

Boom!!! You are now big and ripped!

NUTRITION

All the exercise in the world will not get you healthy if you are not eating healthy. It's like trying to clean out your fish tank by replacing the dirty water with more dirty water. In order to clean out your system you must put clean food (healthy food) into your body.

An easy way that I found to put myself into a healthy eating frame of mind was this. I remember that all the time that I was eating junk food I never once thought about all the delicious smoked salmon or oven roasted turkey that I was missing out on. So the same works vice versa if I am eating healthy. Concentrate only on all the delicious healthy foods that you will be shopping for and serving up at the dinner table. And believe me, the more you search the more you will find. 

-Seared tilapia with watercress-mango salad

-Skillet Tuscan Chicken

-Creamy Spinach Artichoke Soup

-Lemon chicken stir fry

-Creamy Sun-Dried Tomato Parmesan Chicken

EAT LIKE YOU MEAN IT

Are you a BIG eater? Use it to your advantage. BIG eaters can stick to a healthy diet easier than finicky eaters. I love pizza and cheese burgers as much as the next guy, but a big eater like myself will devour a healthy salad with chicken and enjoy every minute of it. There is a world of deliciously healthy foods out there just waiting to be enjoyed. Chop-chop guys!

EAT MORE, NOT LESS

Everyone knows that fish contains small amounts of mercury, egg yolks have cholesterol and milk tears up your stomach. But instead of denying your body of the valuable nutrition that these foods provide. Compliment them with the appropriate countermeasures. Cilantro and herbal teas flush mercury and other heavy metals out of your system. Raw unfiltered Apple cider vinegar and also oatmeal do a great job on cholesterol. And turmeric mixed with your milk is not only delicious but totally eliminates inflammation and stomach cramping as well as having many health benefits. Rule of thumb here and always is... Moderation!

THE ELECTRIC PRESSURE COOKER 

Cooking healthy has never been easier. Bringing back the way mom and grandma used to cook. The new electric pressure cookers are safer and more convenient. You literally set it and forget it. It cooks in 45 minutes and then sets itself to warm. Chicken soup or beef stew with every vegetable in the house... yum. You can already imagine the possibilities.

These are some of my favorite places to go for fast food. Wendy's Mediterranean salad is not only delicious, but stacked high with chicken. Pizza hut has an awesome salad bar and you can treat yourself with a thin crust vegetarian if you must. Taco bell has the chicken power bowl that is also very tasty and a favorite. Doing fast food with a mission. Keep your head in the game.

HOW TO LOSE WEIGHT FAST

CUT THESE TWO THINGS OUT OF YOUR DIET AND YOU WILL LOSE WEIGHT FAST: 

Sugar and Carbs.


Everyone agrees that sugar can be quite addictive. Making it ever so difficult to burn off those pounds no matter how much you exercise. Luckily  though, I have found the magic trick that will release you from its relentless grip. I have done this several times so I know that it works. 5 days without sugar kills the addiction. That's right. Go 5 days without sugar and you will no longer crave that sugary little rascal. It's similar to kicking a caffeine addiction. You simply go cold turkey for a few days and you are done with it. But don't cheat because this will extend the 5 day period. The best thing that you can do is, get rid of it  at the house and don't buy it at the store. Try to get into the same frame of mind that we spoke of earlier. Concentrate only on all the deliciously healthy  foods that you will be shopping for and serving up at the dinner table. Focus your hunger on all the healthy snacks that you just bought at the grocery store. True statement: When I get home from work every day, I can't wait to bust out all my healthy snacks over the kitchen counter. I'm Talking almond butter by the spoonful, my bag of mixed nuts, another bag of oats and granola, I love me some cheese so there's another bag to join the party. I'm in health snack heaven for those next few moments. You could hit me over the head with a candy bar and it wouldn't phase me.


Next on the list is carbs

Carbs was easy for me because I don't really like bread to begin with. And we would only eat pasta every once in a while. So no big love lost there. Again, just use your new found  powers to stay focused. The only time you would need to consider eating carbs is if you are strength training or bodybuilding. In which case you may want to focus mainly on complex carbs like sweet potatoes. 


Another one to watch out for is milk. I love milk but milk will go straight to your belly roll.  And when I do drink it, I like to mix it with turmeric. It's delicious and helps to eliminate inflammation and stomach cramping as well as many other health benefits. Mainly, I just get my calcium from almond milk and coconut milk.
